Description
Saint Peter’s Basilica, the world’s most famous church, is the center of Christianity. The imposing structure was built over a span of more than one hundred years by the greatest
Italian architects of the era.
The church is built on Vatican Hill, across the Tiber river from the historic center of Rome.
St. Peter’s Basilica stands on the traditional site where Peter - the apostle who is considered the first pope - was crucified and buried. St. Peter’s tomb is under the main altar and many other popes are buried in the basilica as well. Originally founded by Constantine in 324,
St. Peter’s Basilica was rebuilt in the 16th century by Renaissance masters including Bramante, Michelangelo and Bernini.
When I traveled to Rome I took a lot of pictures.
I like this one because there is something special in this view. The sky was filling with a lot of clouds and a heavy rain was coming. The building itself was also truly impressive. I wish I would have had time to paint or to draw in Rome but unfortunately we had very limited time.
I hope I will come back someday to Italy for a long trip. Then I can paint and draw there a lot.
